The Hooters Calendar is part of Hooters #GiveAHoot fundraising efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Calendars are currently available at all Hooters locations with $1 of every calendar sale going to Breast Cancer Research. After raising $725,000 in the fight against breast cancer in 2016, Hooters is setting the bar even higher with a goal of $1 million during the month of October.
Kelly Jo Dowd, one of the original Hooters Girls, graced the cover of the 1995 Hooters Calendar and worked her way up the Hooters ranks to manager of the Palm Harbor location, inspired this effort. In 2002, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and despite radical and aggressive treatment; on May 24, 2007, Hooters suffered a tremendous loss with her passing. Through this struggle, she was courageous, becoming an advocate for early detection, education and fundraising in the battle against breast cancer.
Hooters has raised over $4.7 million over the years to support breast cancer research, much of it through the Kelly Jo Dowd Breast Cancer Research Fund benefitting the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Since 1993, the V Foundation has funded more than $170 million in cancer research grants nationwide. The V Foundation awards 100 percent of direct donations to cancer research and programs. The V Foundation’s endowment covers administrative expenses. For more information on the V Foundation or to make a donation, please visit jimmyv.org.
“Traveling to every state of the country is a goal of mine. Getting to visit so many places for the Hooters Calendar Tour is so exciting. What’s even better though, is I’m getting to travel and make a difference by helping to raise money for breast cancer research. My family and I have been personally affected by breast cancer so this opportunity truly means the world to me!“ said 2017 Miss Hooters International Chelsea Morgensen.
Over 200 Hooters Girls from 10 Countries are featured throughout the Hooters Calendar. Hooters Calendar Girls will accompany Morgensen as they travel all over the country for autograph sessions, charity outreach and community events. The Hooters Calendar National Tour includes 2-3 day stops to over 30 cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Miami, Orlando, New York City, New Orleans and St. Louis.
