Alma G. Davis Foundation Honors 150 Survivors of Domestic Violence at Star-Studded Gala on June 24th
Emmy Winner, Sterling K. Brown, from NBC’s “This Is Us,” Set to Host the Event
The Alma G. Davis Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the eradication of domestic violence, will host its 8th annual “Dinner for Divas” gala on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 7 p.m. The celebrity host for the event is Sterling K. Brown, Emmy Award-winning actor and star of NBC’s Golden Globe nominated drama series, “This Is Us.”
Each year, the Alma G. Davis Foundation hosts the gala to empower domestic violence survivors and honors 150 brave women and girls (aged 13+) who have survived the brutality of domestic abuse and currently reside in shelters. The honorees receive complimentary makeovers, including formal attire that they will wear to the red-carpet event and take home with them. In addition, each survivor will participate in free self-defense classes before the gala and sit down to an “A-style” dinner with celebrity guests and corporate friends at the event.
The Alma G. Davis Foundation is asking the community to donate any new or gently used formal dresses (sizes varying from 0 – 36), various shoes, and accessories that the divas will wear to the dinner. To donate, please call Latisia Grace at (678) 957-9464.
According to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, Georgia ranks 9th in the nation for its rate of domestic violence crimes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 30 percent of women in Georgia between the ages of 14 and 44 have been assaulted by an intimate partner at least once.
Sponsors for the event include Chick-fil-A Foundation, Georgia-Pacific, The Cochran Firm-Atlanta, and Country Financial. General admissions tickets are $125 per person. VIP tickets which include a private reception are $175 per person. All donors can choose to sponsor survivors for the event.
