Atlanta’s Next Mayor: A Closer Look at the 2017 Mayoral Candidates
Friendship Baptist Church Forum Ministry, in conjunction with the 2017 Men’s Month Committee, will host a community forum with the 2017 Atlanta Mayoral Candidates on June 24, 2017, from 10:00 am to 1:00pm, in the Fellowship Hall at Providence Baptist Church, 2295 Benjamin E. Mays Dr. SW, Atlanta, GA. Each of the declared candidates for the important position of mayor of the City of Atlanta has been invited to participate in this forum.
Historic Friendship Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Richard W. Wills Sr., is Atlanta’s first independently organized African-American Baptist congregation. Since its establishment in 1862, Friendship has had a unique role in higher education, social service and community outreach in Atlanta. Close ties have been forged and continuously nurtured between the church and institutions within the Atlanta University Center, as well as with other organizations and agencies within the City. Atlanta’s first African-American mayor, the late Honorable Maynard Jackson, Jr., was a son of Friendship.
The 2017 Mayoral Candidates’ Forum continues Friendship’s tradition of service to the Atlanta community. Its purpose is to provide the community and congregation an opportunity to meet candidates for the upcoming mayoral election and to discuss issues of importance to citizens in this election. The forum is free and open to the public.
