The DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Fyodor Cherniavsky, will be performing their Summer Pops Concert on Friday, July 21, 2017. This concert will feature Atlanta’s well-known cabaret performer Libby Whittemore and the Robert Strickland Trio.
During the 1980’s Ms. Whittemore originated the role of Connie Sue Day in the musical theatre phenomenon called Della’s Diner. She went on to perform in feature films and television including I’ll Fly Away, In the Heat of the Night, Profiler, and Something to Talk About, to name a few.
From 2000-2006 Ms. Whittemore went on perform at her own nightclub called “Libby’s – A Cabaret.” It was also during this time that she was able to perform in New York City at the famed Town Hall. In 2007, Ms. Whittemore began a relationship with Actors Express Theatre creating “Libby’s At The Express” in which she produces and co-stars in three cabaret shows a year. Last summer Libby appeared in the role of “Joanne” in Actor’s Express production of Stephen Sondheims’s Company.
The program will showcase an array of popular songs performed by Libby Whittemore and the orchestra will include selections by Leroy Anderson: America’s renowned composer of light concert music.
