Dynamic Concert Blends Art, Dance, Music
A full-length dance concert, to gaze is comprised of two works: “The Space Between Us” and “to gaze.” This performance was inspired by digital paintings created by long-term collaborator, artist Isabella Asratyan, as well as music commissioned by composer, cellist and vocalist Robert Een, who will perform live. “The Space Between Us”, introduced in 2016, is based on Thrity Umrigar’s novel of the same name. The piece uses contemporary modern dance to illuminate elements of the universal concept of the space between classes, cultures, traditions, and personal choices. “to gaze” is presented in two parts. “Stillness” makes the connection between immobility and disquiet and the ways in which movement can create an inner continuum. The second half of “to gaze“ specifically references the artwork that inspires the concert, and explores elements of light, including Apparent, Transparent-Translucent, Opaque and The Observer: Admire from Afar.
