Agnes Scott College's annual Gay Johnson McDougall Symposium on Race, Justice and Reconciliation features a series of programs exploring the historical origins and contemporary realities of global racial oppression and strategies for justice and reconciliation. The symposium honors Gay Johnson McDougall, the Black student who integrated Agnes Scott in 1965. This year’s symposium explores the college's complex history with race and racism, examining it as part of a larger series of events under the theme of "Lifting the Veil: A History of Race and Racism at Agnes Scott College." The symposium is free and open to the public. Programs include a panel discussion on "Undaunted by the Struggle: A Legacy of Hope, Justice and Inclusion at Agnes Scott" and a featured speaking event with acclaimed poet, novelist, activist and Pulitzer Prize–winning author Alice Walker.
