During the weekend of July 7-9, join the Georgia Conservancy for a two-night service trip to the amazing Len Foote Hike Inn. If you enjoy wilderness hiking, but prefer a soft bed instead of camping, then the Len Foote Hike Inn is for you. Surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Chattahoochee National Forest, the Inn provides a truly unique experience.
From the Hike Inn:
"From the experienced Appalachian Trail "thru-hiker" to the family seeking a unique weekend getaway, the Hike Inn's secluded location allows a wide range of people to enjoy the peace and beauty of the mountains without the trappings of modern life.
The Inn -- open year round -- is a sustainably-designed Georgia State Park facility nestled in the Chattahoochee National Forest, just a few hours north of Atlanta. Its four main buildings offer twenty private guest rooms, hot showers, fresh linens and home-cooked meals.
The Hike Inn's mission is to make experiencing nature easy, and help protect it through education and recreation.
Welcome to the Hike Inn. A backcountry lodge, a gateway to the Appalachian Trail, and one of Georgia's most distinctive state park destinations."
You will arrive at the inn on Friday after a moderate five-mile hike starting at Amicalola Falls State Park and traverse through the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The trail follows a gently sloping mountain ridge and crosses small streams. Keep an eye along the trail for wild turkey, thrushes, deer, ferns, wild iris, sassafras, pink lady's slipper, rhododendron, mountain laurel and colorful mushrooms.
On Saturday, guests will split up into small groups to begin service work that includes cleaning windows and dorm rooms, chopping wood, light building projects, clearing brush, hemlock tree inspection, trail restoration and invasive plant species removal. Service work will conclude in the early afternoon.
Rooms have one set of bunk beds. Sheets, pillows and blankets are provided. The shared bathhouse has showers, sinks, mirrors, electrical outlets and odor-free composting toilets. Towels, soap and shampoo are provided.
Rates for this extremely popular Georgia Conservancy trip are $200 per person and include lodging and all meals.
