Get in the zone! Go Zen! Tap into your innermost creative side and create a beautiful mixed media map of an imaginary place inspired by haiku, a minimalist form of poetry. Valerie will guide you through a structured and nurturing process to write your own haiku and then to create a small, simple, and understated art quilt map that captures the feeling of your haiku.
Valerie Goodwin is an architect and an artist who creates fiber art inspired by the realistic and abstract imagery of maps. Her quilts are part of her continuing investigation of ideas that focus on geometric relationships, patterns, and the ordering principals found in architecture. She conveys these ideas abstractly through the use of collage, transparency, density, and improvisation, and her work is noted for its use of color, and its emphasis on line and density. Valerie has a Masters in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis and currently teaches architectural design classes at Florida A&M University's School of Architecture. She publishes and exhibits widely and teaches workshops nationally and internationally.
Cost: $120 for individual SEFAA members; $145 for non-members. Register before 11/2/2017 and receive an automatic 10% EarlyBird discount! There is also a $10 supply fee payable to Valerie at the beginning of the workshop for supplies she provides.
