History buffs, community leaders and preservationists will team up with the Civil War Trust at more than 130 sites in 30 states to answer the call to service on Park Day. Celebrating over 20 successful years, #parkday has attracted volunteers of all ages and abilities bound by their dedication to serving their communities at historic sites nationwide.
In the Metro-Atlanta area, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will host a Park Day event beginning at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers will assist in improvement of a section of the park's trail system which leads to the historic 24 Gun Battery, built by Union forces in 1864. A Park Ranger may also be available to describe the park's significance. Kennesaw Mountain NBP's Park Day event is in partnership with the Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club, a local non-profit organization which assists Kennesaw Mountian NBP in trail maintenance and restoration.
