Immerse yourself in cotton and color and dye both knitted blanks and cotton sliver in this one-day workshop with Cindy Walker!
Dyeing long-shift colorways on knitted blanks: Long-shift colorways differ from variegated or multicolored yarns because the colors shift or change over yards rather than 10-16 inches. You'll learn to prepare knitted blanks for dyeing, color theory graphing, and dyeing, and you'll leave with 4 oz./480 yds, of color-coordinated fingering-weight dyed cotton blanks that can be used for Fair Isle and stranded knitting projects or shawls, shawlettes, or cowls.
Dyeing cotton sliver/fiber: Of course, cotton can also be dyed before it is spun into yarn, so you'll also learn to dye cotton sliver, including preparing the fiber and how to "push the dye" into the fiber. You'll leave with 8 oz. of dyed fiber that you can spin once it dries.
Cindy Walker's cotton journey began in 2012 with an itch that led to this diagnosis: "Hey, you are allergic to wool". So, Cindy regrouped and set out to produce her own line of organic cotton, She now has a line of organic and blended yarns as well as fiber, all of which is grown, spun, plied, and dyed with pride in the USA. She sells her yarn and fiber along with patterns and kits at festivals and through her NC business, Pacolet Valley Fibers, and she teaches both at her studio and at shops and events throughout the south.
