The Westobou Festival is an annual celebration of the arts and creativity that showcases music, dance, spoken word and other forms of artistic expression. To commemorate ten years of promoting community inspiration and cultural change, the Westobou Festival will host events for ten days, during which Augusta’s downtown will be transformed into an artistic mecca where all attendees may explore and enjoy the creative environment. Events will be held October 3 through October 14.
With much more to offer than classical concerts and typical exhibitions, Westobou provides audiences with the opportunity to experience the power of art within the backdrop of eclectic Augusta. Artist galleries, shows and musical performances are sprinkled throughout the festival’s line up. Music acts include Grammy-winning Blues vocals to Chris Robison Brotherhood and much more. Other noteworthy exhibits include contemporary artworks by Annie Kammerer-Butrus and Yuken Teruya.
At Westobou, one can find modern art, contemporary creations and a “Gallery Trolley” to transport festival attendees and guarantee they get to experience each artist’s work. With a focus on creativity, Westobou supplies a large scope of fun, interactive events. Other activities include yoga, comedy routines, food trucks and the Westobou ferris wheel. Family friendly events include “Super Awesome Story Time.” Comedy headliner Kevin Hart will join the lineup Saturday October 7 and Sunday October 8 at the Bell Auditorium.
Guests should plan to stay in Augusta for the full ten days without fear of boredom. Many musical acts, art and other various activities throughout the festival are free of charge, while others may require tickets to be purchased in advance to ensure attendance. Make lodging arrangements with one of Augusta’s finest. From pet friendly to historic, ideal options for all will be available.
Over the past few years, the city that has always been strongly connected to a rich, historic past, has been boasting a revitalized culinary, nightlife and undiscovered arts scene. The festival provides a way for Augusta to show off the wealth of artistic talent within the city.
