The chorus returns this season to touch our hearts with holiday music
“In our 5 years of existence, multiple audience members have requested we put on a holiday concert”, said Dr. Melissa Arasi, Atlanta Women’s Chorus artistic director and assistant professor of music education at Reinhardt University. With the full support and eagerness of our community, we hope to bring joy to all who attend and Arasi states, “this first holiday show is bound to get you in the spirit of the season and to pull your loved ones nearer!”
“We wanted to include other choirs in our performance and thought with the many wonderful children's choirs in Atlanta, it would be a perfect collaboration.” Arasi continues, “Themes of bells and dreidels start the show with the beautiful ‘And Sure Stars Shining’ (text by Sara Teasdale) preparing the way for the guest choirs’ performance.” Craig Hurley, music director of the Ford Elementary Chorus, stated that “The students will perform traditional melodies from Italy, Israel and the United States.” Hurley added, “The Ford Elementary Chorus is thrilled to perform with the Atlanta Women’s Chorus. This will be many of the students’ first choral concert experience and they are very excited.” Together with the Ford Elementary Chorus on December 13th and the Atlanta Music Project Youth Choir on December 16th, there will be something for everyone to enjoy!
The AWC has a diverse group of singers and all our members serve as inspiration for the selection of songs in the show. Arasi continues, “The second half of the show debuts our new small ensemble, Sorellanza, with two classics: ‘In Dulci Jubilo’ and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.’ The new small ensemble has only been featured at a handful of events since their formation this past August and this will be their first integrated performance with the full chorus’ show. We will close the show by touching hearts with ‘The Winter's Night’ and ‘The World for Christmas’. And for some light-hearted fun, we have Kelly Clarkson's ‘Underneath the Tree’ and ‘White Christmas’ from the movie classic ‘Holiday Inn’!”
Voices of Note Executive Director Eve Campbell has been cheering the group on as they prepare for their first seasonal show and states “There’s something about women’s voices singing holiday music that stirs the soul. It’s like angels on earth! Add to this the performances of our incredible guest children’s choirs and it’s truly a holiday concert not to be missed.”
