2017 GON OUTDOOR BLAST FAST FACTS
Gun-An-Hour Giveaway: Come early and stay late for your FREE chance at the hourly gun drawings. Every hour on the hour, a show-goer’s name will be drawn to win a new gun. There’s no raffle ticket to buy, just come by the GON booth and fill out a free entry, and you’ll be in the Gun-An-Hour Giveaway. Over the three-day Outdoor Blast, 21 guns will be given away through a partnership between 30-30 Ministries and the Georgia Hunting & Fishing Federation. You must be present to win.
Chevy Ride & Drive: Whether you’re in the market for a car or truck or just love getting behind the wheel of an awesome new vehicle, you’ll have the chance to drive a variety of Chevy cars and trucks this year at the Outdoor Blast. This year Chevrolet is bringing eight new vehicles for you. It’s a great time to sit behind the wheel and see the newest technology. Heck they even give you a gift just for taking a drive. The Chevy Ride & Drive will be available to all Outdoor Blast attendees on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30.
Truck-Buck Shoot-Out Finals: More than $50,000 in prizes will be awarded to Georgia deer hunters in GON’s big-buck contest. See who will overcome the nerves, out shoot the rest and drive home a Silverado from John Megel Chevrolet. Semi-finals on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. The ultimate champion will be crowned Sunday afternoon with the first pellet flying at 3 p.m.
The World Record Non-Typical Buck: The newly crowned world record, hunter-taken non-typical whitetail buck, now known simply as the Tucker Buck, will be on display. The 47-point non-typical buck was harvested on Nov. 7, 2016 in Sumner County, Tennessee. The buck will be on display at the J&S Scents booth, which will be located in the center atrium located between the two main vendor halls and near the entrance to the Jim & Nicks Bar-B-Q area and beverage garden.
Snake Man Steve Scruggs: Famous for his “Snakes Alive” show Steve Scruggs will be at the Blast teaching us all how to identify venomous vs. non-venomous snakes, what to do if bitten, how to avoid being bitten and laws associated with snakes. He’ll have plenty of snakes on hand to show you including some big rattlers! Steve’s exhibit will be there all weekend with shows Friday at 4 p.m.; Saturday at 12 noon and 6 p.m., and on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admittance to the Snakes Alive shows is free with your paid entry into the Blast.
Birds of Prey With Buster Brown: The birds of prey are coming to the Outdoor this year as Buster Brown brings his Georgia Mountain Falconry experience to the Infinite Energy Center. “Blast patrons will have access to various equipment and training methods for our sport, and we will have a variety of birds including hawks, falcons and owls, including the largest species of owl in the world, the Eurasian Eagle Owl,” Buster said. In addition to having an exhibit where folks can see the raptors all weekend, Buster will be conducting three “Introduction to Falconry” seminars on Friday at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
U.S. Law Shield Seminar: If you carry a gun, you need to make plans to attend a free seminar from the attorneys and experts at U.S. Law Shield. Georgia Gun Law, the Castle Doctrine, the right to retreat and info on where you can carry a firearm with or without a Georgia Weapon Carry License will be covered in this educational, important seminar. The Q&A format seminar will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Seminar Room.
Truck-Buck Wall of Fame: Get up close and personal with Georgia’s Biggest Bucks of 2016. This massive collection of Georgia bucks will having you itching for opening day.
Deer Scoring & Display: Bring your deer to be scored for the GON Big Buck Awards. It’s your chance to get qualified for the GON All-Time County-by-County Records. Official scorers will be on hand measuring racks for free. Scoring will be done throughout show hours on Friday and on Saturday until 2:30 p.m.
Blast Kid Zone: As always there will be plenty there for the kids again this year! Bring the kids and let them enjoy free face painting, a Wipe-Out Obstacle Course, a Mechanical Bull and more at no cost. Kids under 12 get in free to the Blast, and there’s no charge for the Blast Kid Zone.
