The Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus will close its 37th season with Broadway & Peachtree, a show combining traditional Broadway favorites with selections of some newer musical theater productions for a performance that encapsulates the best “The Great White Way” has to offer.
The performances will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 29 and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 at Out Front Theatre, 999 Brady Ave. N.W., Atlanta GA 30318. Tickets are available from www.voicesofnote.org. Tickets are $25 through June 3, $30 June 4 through June 28, and $35 at the door on the day of the show. Special pricing is available for children, senior citizens and military personnel.
Interim Director Donald Milton III said of the concert, “I'm excited for this program because we're doing a lot of contemporary Broadway hits. Shows like Hamilton and Dear Evan Hanson are leading the charge of another Broadway golden age, but there will be something for even the most traditional Broadway fans, as well. In one evening with the AGMC, we get to experience the emotions of Dear Evan Hanson and Spring Awakening, the power of Hamilton and Rent, the humor of Avenue Q and Something Rotten, the glitter and glam of Kinky Boots and Hello Dolly, and so much more.”
Milton continued, “Historically, these Broadway shows have been favorites for both the chorus and our audiences and we hope you'll shine your tap shoes and join us. After the holiday and spring concerts, which are traditionally more serious in tone, it will be fun for the AGMC to ‘let loose’ with this Broadway spectacular. The best news is that, while the audience will get a really fun show, the musical excellence our audiences have come to expect will still be there. We had to turn people away from our last show, Midnight Train to Georgia, which sold out three shows so make sure you get your tickets early!”
Executive Director Eve Campbell said, “In all of our shows, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus strives to bring a positive and loving message wrapped in a blanket of musical excellence — as we say in our mission statement, to change hearts and minds through music. This show will certainly achieve this by showing the more playful, yet still musical side of the AGMC.”
Out Front Theatre has been a popular past AGMC venue where both choruses will present many of their productions going forward. “The space is perfect for many of our shows, and we fully support Out Front Theatre Company’s mission to tell stories of the LGBTQIA experience and community through theatre and other performing arts,” Campbell noted.
Now in its 37th season, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is part of Voices of Note, Inc., a not-for-profit organization governing the AGMC and the five-year-old Atlanta Women’s Chorus. Voices of Note is a catalyst for social change, changing hearts and minds through music. Both the AGMC and the AWC are members of GALA Choruses Inc., the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses.
Programs for Voices of Note are supported in part by the Fulton County Arts Council and the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs.
