An Atlanta-based charity, Art For Art, has teamed up with an international charity to bring Atlantans a unique opportunity this Memorial Day Weekend: take home your favorite works of art produced by talented student artists from underserved communities in Africa and support the students’ visual arts classes in Africa.
The “Art For Africa” Exhibition opens on Friday, May 25, 2018 during the Decatur Arts Festival Artwalk, and runs through Sunday, May 27, at Little Shop of Stories, a children’s bookstore on Decatur Square. Admission is free, and visitors are encouraged to connect not only with the drawings and paintings, but also with the student artists who created them, through short bios that are included with each piece.
Art For Art supports charitable causes in the arts through a model that connects individuals and groups in developed and underdeveloped communities around the world. It has partnered with African Angels to provide funding for visual arts classes that teach children who live without electricity, running water, sanitation or suitable housing to think critically and creatively, to observe and analyze, to express feelings and to problem-solve. All donations are tax deductible and directly support the students’ educational programs in Africa.
