Concrete Jungle is an Atlanta-based nonprofit that connects the dots between Georgia’s abundant fruit tree canopy and the hungry and homeless in Georgia who have little access fresh, local produce. Over the past nine years, we have mapped 2,800 fruit trees, and rescued and donated over 62,000 pounds of fresh local produce to food banks and shelters — free produce that would have otherwise rotted in parks, yards, farms, and on streets.
Every year, we kick off our harvesting season with our Spectacular Fruit Ramble, a fruit tree tour highlighting the bountiful fruit growing in the heart of Atlanta. Following the tour, we are hosting a fruit-themed carnival at Ration and Dram with homemade fruit-related games, food and drink, and a raffle for prizes from local businesses! The event is an excellent way to see the city through a different perspective: that of excess fruit and hunger in the city, and helps us to raise funds to continue our work. The Ramble is on May 20th.
