PRESS RELEASE Date: May 21, 2018
Friendship Baptist Church to Host a Community Forum
Human Trafficking In Atlanta
“Keeping Our Children Safe”
Friendship Baptist Church Forum Ministry, in conjunction with the 2018 Men’s Month Committee, will present “Human Trafficking in Atlanta: Keeping Our Children Safe,” on Saturday, June 23, 2018, from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m., at Friendship Baptist Church, 80 Walnut Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30314. The purpose of this community forum is (1) to increase awareness about sex trafficking in Metropolitan Atlanta, which has been at the forefront of this crisis, and to inform the public as to what is being done to eradicate the appalling exploitation of our children and youth.
The forum will feature representatives of agencies and organizations that are working daily to reach, rescue, and restore victims of this horrific crime that is plaguing our community, including the City of Atlanta’s Police Department Sex Crime Unit and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office Sex Trafficking Unit. Other confirmed presenters include Out of Darkness and youthSpark. The program will also include a documentary on Sex Trafficking in Metro Atlanta by Kiss the Limit Productions.
Historic Friendship Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Richard W. Wills Sr., is Atlanta’s first independently organized African-American Baptist congregation. Since its establishment in 1862, Friendship has forged close ties between the church and other institutions and organizations addressing critical issues that impact the community and its citizens. This forum, focusing on the important issue of human trafficking and its traumatic effects on our children, continues Friendship’s tradition of outreach and service to the Atlanta community. The program, which is being planned by the Friendship Forum Ministry under the leadership of Dr. Kevin Dancy and Mrs. Margie Shannon Telfair, is free and open to the public.
