NEW RELEASE 4² / US DEBUT TOUR
A native Parisian of Armenian descent, singer, songwriter and guitar-player Nicola Són has been a permanent resident of São Paulo, Brazil's largest city, for the past 4 years. In a previous album trilogy (see discography), the artist explored different areas of Brazil and their specific rhythms. In anticipation of his return to Europe and to close his Brazilian chapter on a high note, Nicola Són will be releasing 4², a new EP, on April 6, 2018. The disk features 4 songs all co-written in Portuguese with his long-time Brazilian friend and collaborative lyricist, journalist Igor Ribeiro.
Following a 4X4 concept, the tracks were recorded in 4 different Brazilian cities, each time with different local producers, Márcio Arantes in São Paulo, Daniel Montes in Rio de Janeiro, Hugo Linns in Recife and João Antunes in Belo Horizonte.
To celebrate the release of this new soulful project, Nicola Són will be making his debut on the North American music scene in May and June with a tour of over 20 dates across 10 States and 18 cities starting in Miami (May 16) then New York City (May 17) and ending in LA (June 16).
Throughout his prolific recording career, Nicola Són has cemented a cultural bridge between Brazilian music and chanson française. His debut album Parioca (2010) was produced in Rio and influenced by 60's samba-jazz fusion band Sambalanço.
Nord Destin (2013) showcased legendary pianist composer João Donato as well as carioca samba ensemble Casuarina.
Concluding his Brazilian trilogy with panache, Sampathique (2016) was directed by 80's influential producer Paul Lepetit, known as the catalyst of Vanguardia Paulista, São Paulo's vanguard renaissance. "Corações ternos", track #4 on the disk, effectively paired young Nicola Són with seasoned Brazilian rock star Zeca Baleiro who would later select the song to be featured on his best-of duets compilation.
